Department: | Kuchina |
Location: | Seattle, WA |
The Kuchina lab at the Institute for Systems Biology is seeking a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to lead the projects on systems biology of bacteria in complex biological samples such as microbiota, biofilm or the host-pathogen interface. We have established a single-cell RNA sequencing approach designed specifically for bacteria, which we seek to further develop and apply towards gaining an understanding of transcriptome-wide phenotypic variation of invasive intracellular pathogens. We are also developing approaches for measuring phenotypic heterogeneity and single-cell behavior of bacteria in single- or polymicrobial biofilms. A Postdoctoral Fellow will improve the single-cell genomics workflow, design and conduct experiments, perform genomics data analysis, write manuscripts and publish the resulting data.
Successful candidates should have (or shortly be awarded) a Ph.D. in Biology, Systems Biology, Microbiology, Genomics, Biological or Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. We are looking for candidates proficient in molecular biology and microbiology techniques as well as resulting data analysis, deeply enthusiastic about bacterial communities and single-cell behavior, and who will thrive in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment. Programming and bioinformatics skills are preferred but not required.
Applicants should include a CV and a brief (1-page) cover letter summarizing their background and future research interests.
